The foundation stone of this school was laid by His Excellency the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, on 13th October 1959. The school was
however formally opened for admission in the following year, on 9th October, 1960. From that humble beginning, the school steadily grew to achieve national reputation when in 1975, it was officially granted a sixth-form status. Within a span of fifty six (56) years, the school has been administered by 11 (eleven) headmasters. Asankrangwa Senior High School is currently located in a serene environment with a very beautiful school compound which is quite attractive to every first time visitor to the school.
At the National Arts and Cultural Festival held at Bolgatanga in August 2016, the school emerged first in creative Arts drawing,second cycle category. Thewas adjudged the best schoolin Agriculture at the regionalFarmers Day Celebration held in November 2016 at Asankragwa by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA)
