Former president of Ghana and founder of the biggest opposition party, Jerry John Rawlings ‘clashed’ with John Dramani Mahama, the immediate ex president of Ghana and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress- NDC at the 2019 Hogbetsotso Festival.
Mr Rawlings is a fierce critic of the NDC and John Dramani Mahama so it was a rare sight when they met at the durbar grounds and exchanged warm pleasantries.
John Mahama and John Rawlings were guests at the Hogbetsotso festival which is celebrated by the people of Anloga in the Volta Region.
Some major Anlo towns include Anloga, Keta, Kedzi, Vodza, Whuti, Tegbi, Dzita, Abor, Afiadenygba, Anyako, Konu, Alakple, Tsito, Atiavi, Deʋegodo, and many other villages celebrate the annual festival.
Hogbetsotso is one of the indigenous festivals in Ghana. It is celebrated by the Anlo people to commemorate the escape from Notsie in Togo to their present abode in the Volta Region of Ghana, between the fourteenth and the fifteenth centuries.
