St Margaret Mary SHS has progressed to the next stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) by eliminating Mawuli SHS and Ghana SHS Tamale on Monday evening at the Amegashie Auditorium in the University of Ghana.
St Margaret Mary SHS qualified for the one-fourth stage of the competition by a very close margin in the final contest of the one-eighth stage on Monday.
Joel Osafo and Isaac Thompson came from behind to take the victory for their school.
The epic contest that was battled out with Mawuli SH, represented by Raymond Noagbe and Enoch Fortune Thompson and Ghana SHS Tamale was also represented by Farida Issah and Boffah Kwaku Amondo.
At the beginning of the contest, Mawuli SHS lead the first round with 9 points. Ghana SHS Tamale and St Margaret Mary SHS followed closely with 8 and 6 points respectively on the score table.
Still in the lead, Mawuli SHS secured 16 points in the second round of the contest. St Margaret Mary SHS moved up the score table with 8 points whereas Ghana SHS Tamale placed last with 7 points in this round.
In the third round of the contest, Mawuli SHS held the fort as they maintained the lead on the score table with 20 points. Ghana SHS Tamale and St Margaret Mary SHS followed with 13 and 11 points.
The fourth round saw a daring contest between Mawuli SHS and Ghana SHS Tamale. Both schools secured 23 points with St Margaret Mary SHS following closely with 21 points on the score table.
Moving from grass to grace, St Margaret Mary SHS rose to win the contest at the end of the fifth round with 27 points.
Mawuli SHS who had dominated all four rounds of the contest fell short with a point, leaving them with 26 points on the score table. Ghana SHS Tamale made 23 points at the end of the contest.
